The application of augmented reality in shop floor procedures and operator training

As part of PPS8 – Work Package 22, of the INOV.AM agenda, the partner Glartek has been changing the industrial landscape by developing advanced 3D visualization and interaction features through the integration of augmented reality and artificial intelligence in the digitization of shop floor procedures, with a focus on training and supporting operators.
Among the solutions developed, we highlight two innovations:
-Virtual training laboratories, an essential tool for digital transformation. These laboratories allow the identification of critical points on the shop floor and train employees through detailed 3D models and real-scale simulations, with realistic interactions of machines and equipment.
With a virtual environment that does not require the physical presence of real machines, it is possible to train operators in advance, helping them acquire new skills. This facilitates continuous and advanced training, allowing operators to perform shop floor tasks even before the machines are operational.
These virtual training laboratories also include digital work instructions, transforming training procedures into digital processes. This makes daily management more efficient, reducing variability in processes and improving the accuracy of reports. Additionally, augmented reality guidance allows operators to access contextual information whenever necessary, speeding up the learning process.
– Competency management platform, capable of continuously assessing each worker’s skill level and identifying gaps that need intervention, thus facilitating the identification of training needs.
This solution enables the creation of personalized training programs, promoting continuous improvement of skills and their monitoring through a competency matrix. The matrix also allows for the creation and scheduling of training programs based on the trainee’s progress. Furthermore, it ensures the control and reassessment of certifications, offering a database with guides, best practices, histories, and updated versions.
With the ability to train teams anywhere in the world, the platform represents an adaptable solution to the specific needs of industrial companies from various sectors. In the case of additive manufacturing, this means optimizing production, reducing waste, minimizing rework, and improving shop floor safety, all without impacting daily production.
These solutions thus provide the ideal support to accelerate the adoption of new technologies, enhance operator training, and increase production efficiency.
