INOV.AM, a key agenda for transforming the industry, continues to drive the evolution of additive manufacturing in Portugal. In an exclusive interview with Molds and Plastics magazine, António Silva, R&D and New Business Manager at Erofio – the company leading the agenda – shared how the agenda is promoting the development of advanced technological solutions.
In the beginning, INOV.AM aimed to develop 40 products, processes or services, but that number grew to around 60 as companies realized the new market opportunities.
The most innovative projects underway include:
Production of the Mold 5G
3D printing of food
Creation of new products, such as filaments and pellets, based on recycled materials
Innovation, Competitiveness and Collaboration
The INOV.AM Agenda aims to increase the competitiveness of Portuguese companies by providing the tools needed to speed up processes, reduce costs and create higher value products. Collaboration between companies and universities is an essential pillar for placing Portugal at the forefront of additive manufacturing.
For António Silva, “Portugal is in a good position to be at the forefront of additive manufacturing, but in order to do so we need to invest heavily in technology, knowledge and collaboration between companies and universities”. In addition, he stresses that the priority must be to value the country’s internal capabilities: “We have the internal capacity to develop national products and technologies, and our priority must be to value what we produce, rather than simply transferring our value to others.”
The INOV.AM Mobilizing Agenda foresees an investment of 76.9 million euros, 53.3 million of which will be financed by the PRR. It is currently close to 65% complete.
