PIEP Showcases Innovations at Sustainability Conferences
The INOV.AM Agenda through its partner PIEP (Polymer Engineering Innovation Pole) was present at two international conferences on sustainability, where it shared the latest advances and results of the work carried out under the agenda.
On October 21, it took part in SETAC Europe – 26th LCA Symposium in Gothenburg, Sweden, an event whose theme was “Making LCA Meaningful: Good Data, Better Models, Sustainable Decisions”. The conference highlighted the need for robust data collection and processing to make Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) more relevant and applicable to the real world.
As part of WP02 (Hybrid Moulds for Polymer Products), PIEP gave a presentation entitled “Integrating Life Cycle Assessment with Life Cycle Cost Analysis for Automotive Polymer Injection Mould Production: A Parallel Approach”. The presentation focused on the integrated analysis of the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Life Cycle Costing (LCC) of the baseline polymer mold, where the results, methodology and conclusions about this integrated analysis, based on the ISO 14040-44 standard, were presented.
The symposium in Gothenburg brought together experts from the European community, including representatives from academia, research institutes, industry, government, consultancies and NGOs, to share the latest innovations in LCA.
The previous month, at the 13th International Conference on Sustainable Development and Planning (September 23-25 in Seville, Spain), the topic “Exploring environmental impacts in the bicycle helmet market: a life cycle assessment approach” was presented as part of WP07 (Comfort and safety products for leisure and competitive sports).
The conference in Seville brought together a wide range of professionals interested in promoting sustainability through innovative strategies, policy development and global cooperation. Innovative research was presented on topics such as sustainable energy, infrastructure, mobility and waste management, as well as regional and urban planning. In addition, there were two special sessions: one dedicated to strategies for environmental sustainability and the other focused on transnational cooperation for the energy and climate transition.
These presences reaffirm the active role in the sustainable transformation of the INOV.AM agenda and are key to strengthening the agenda’s international network around sustainability, innovation and scientific knowledge.
