WP8 – Laser Reconstruction
This project will develop integrated metal (re)construction equipment for a specific target scenario: multi-cavity molds in the medical sector (with parts up to 50 mm). The equipment will be transportable and capable of on-site intervention, allowing maintenance and repairs to be performed directly at the customer’s facilities, specifically on the assembly line where molds are in operation.
The quality of the reconstruction will be verified using dimensional control equipment, which is also transportable and integrated into a single system. This approach allows for quick intervention times, which will be easily measurable. The system will integrate additive manufacturing technologies in the maturation phase, led by UMinho, mature subtractive technologies supported by MPTOOL and DNC, and inspection and quality control technologies directed by ISOINSPEQT.
Changes and repairs to molds are typically time-intensive and involve critical logistical and production planning requirements, as molds often need to be returned to the manufacturer for servicing. This new system will enable the transportation of all necessary resources for on-site mold maintenance, significantly reducing the time and logistical constraints previously associated with these interventions.
Additionally, the system will enhance technical and design communication protocols, wear monitoring (improving maintenance plans), and the management of spare components, making maintenance processes more streamlined and efficient.
