
As part of the INOV.AM Agenda, PTScience, a partner of the consortium, promoted the webinar “Business, professional and research ethics”, with the aim of making partners aware of the importance of ethics as a basis for sustainable development, social responsibility and professional integrity, highlighting its importance in the corporate environment and in the context of scientific research.
The session was attended by two expert guests: Dr. Hugo Correia (Lawyer at CCF Advogados and Consultant at Rogério & Alves Associados) and Dr. Bruno Espinha (University of Évora; Faculty of Law at Mandume Ya Ndemufayo University, Huíla, Angola).
The session began with a brief legal overview by Dr. Hugo Correia, who addressed the legal consequences (disciplinary and civil liability) of ethical violations.
The session was followed by a presentation by Dr. Bruno Espinha on the concepts of ethics and morality, highlighting their relevance in corporate environments and the advantages of adopting ethical business practices, including the adoption of clear codes of conduct shared by all.
In the context of scientific research, he also presented the 12 principles of conduct, defined by David Resnik, that should govern the scientist: Honesty; Care; Openness; Freedom; Credit; Education; Social responsibility; Legality; Opportunity; Mutual respect; Efficiency; Respect for subjects – principles that apply to the collection, recording, analysis, interpretation, sharing and storage of data, as well as publication and peer review practices.
The webinar ended with a reflection on ethics in scientific publications, stressing the importance of respect for authorship rights, intellectual property and credit attribution.
